The Scenic Road Home

After attending the Southern Baptist Convention in Greensboro, N.C., Grani and Papa decided to take the scenic drive home. That took us through Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, (We saw Ohio) and even Indiana! This isn’t something out of the ordinary. Today we are celebrating 30 years of this wonderful journey as husband and wife. That’s after dating for about 5 years before that. Wow! 35 years. There are thousands of really cool stories I could tell of our scenic stroll through life, but on this particular past week our travels to Kentucky led us to a trip to the zoo with Hannah! I have a picture I'll scan and add to this.

Then that night Hannah met more cousins, Alyssa and Kari, and her Great-Uncle Roger and Great-Aunt Jayme. They were on their way to Chicago on a youth mission trip and had stopped to stay the night in Indiana just across the Ohio River from Louisville. What a fun day!

There were notes in the mailboxes about some balls hidden under the garden bench.
We had lots of fun playing in the back yard.

A Real Trip to the Zoo
We went to see the new giraffes. We didn't see them because their fence was broken, so they had to stay in their house.




We went to the zoo on Tuesday. We had a cool side by side buggy for traveling.

We remembered the great pictures we took in the bamboo at our visit in October (you'll want to compare with that post) so we took some again.

There is a cool tunnel when you leave the elephant area and head down toward the petting zoo. Half way through the tunnel there is a window where you can look out.

Spending the day at the zoo really tires a guy out. And all good cowboys sleep in their boots.

Adventure Science Museum
I'm not sure what all of the slimey things on this wall are. Probably better off not knowing. The pretty girl in pink is not slimey.
One of Gibson's favorite things at the ASM was the train set. All the great train engineers wear cowboy boots while they work on their trains.


We had a wonderful time. We didn't get a lot of pictures because we spent most of our time running from one place to another. It was wild and crazy!

The first two pictures are from Haley's blog. The after and before pictures of haircuts. You can see more on Haley's blog. The other two pictures are two too cute pictures of a beautiful girl who is pretty in every hair style she tries out.



These two lovely girls have very different hair. The pretty one in red has taught her husband how to cut her hair since she never found anyone in Louisville to cut it the way she likes. The little one in white has beautiful brown-black curls.

Our Little Sound Engineer

I'm not sure that's exactly what's going on here, but I don't think I've ever seen a cuter little boy with headphones on. He's already a great drummer and a great singer, so why couldn't he be a sound engineer too?

Mailboxes




On the other side of the bridge in Papa's back yard are mailboxes for the grandbabies. Sometimes they have mail in them and sometimes there are cool things like bouncy balls or stickers or other fun things. There's a green mailbox for Gibson, a purple mailbox for Haven and now there is a new red mailbox for Hannah.

We'll be adding a new blue mailbox in August!! Wow this is fun!

Adoption Party - Family Day


Last night was Hannah's adoption party. Christy and Daniel's friends brought finger foods and a cake. Christy's Uncle Randall, Aunt Em and Isaac came in from St. Louis for the party and Daniel's Brother, Matthew, and His family, Melanie, Will, Alex and Sophie, surprised everyone and came in from Huntsville, Alabama. I guess if you've just become part of a big family you might as well start meeting all of the cousins and Aunts and Uncles.

ADOPTION DAY!



Today was adoption day! It started early as relatives - two sets of grandparents from Tennessee, great-grandparents from Oklahoma and Hannah's mom and dad - met at Hannah's house. We drove downtown to the courthouse and Hannah's friend Maddie and her mom, Jennifer, met us there. We took pictures of all of us in the courtroom and then the judge came in. He read through some things and said it all looked good and then said some really cool stuff like she now has all the rights just like a child who had come from their bodies. and he also said she had the responsibilities of a natural born child. As Andrew would put it, that means she gets to pick their nursing home when they are old.
